Last June, we had the pleasure of sponsoring the Indie UnConference Europe for the second year in a row. This international gathering focuses on the business side of independent publishing.
Held in the stunning setting of Matera, in southern Italy, the event brought together authors from around the world—primarily Europe and the US—to share strategies, tools, and visions for the future of indie publishing.
The unconference format once again proved to be a successful and engaging approach. Rather than following a fixed schedule, participants collaboratively built the agenda, ensuring that every session reflected their real-time interests and challenges.
During our participation on June 19, discussions explored some of the most relevant and timely topics shaping the indie publishing landscape.
From the growing impact of AI in publishing to promotion strategies and community-building platforms like Substack, the discussions were both practical and forward-thinking. The rise of direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales was another major focus, alongside key themes such as translation, paid advertising, sales channels, and evolving publishing formats.
The event brought together a diverse group of experienced indie authors who enriched the conversation by sharing their personal journeys and insights. Industry professionals from both the production and distribution sides also joined the discussion—including our team at StreetLib and fellow US digital publishing platform, Draft2Digital.
The Indie UnConference Europe once more established itself as a must-attend event for anyone serious about indie publishing. It offered a valuable opportunity to connect with authors and publishing professionals, fostering open exchange, shared experiences, and a collective commitment to growth.
A huge thank-you to the organizers and to everyone who participated. We can’t wait to see you all again in 2026!
