BookRix, the independent, community-focused self-publishing platform, today announced the launch of its first subscription app for readers and listeners. Developed in partnership with Beat Technology — an international leader in subscription and streaming solutions for ebooks and audiobooks — the new app represents a strategic leap toward creating a fully integrated publishing ecosystem.

Founded in 2008 to provide independent publishers and authors with equal access to digital distribution channels traditionally dominated by large publishing houses, BookRix now takes another step forward. The new subscription app, together with the recent revamp of its community platform, reflects a renewed vision of self-publishing in today’s landscape of creator platforms and the consolidating digital book market.

“Within the lifespan of BookRix, self-publishing has risen and professionalized, and digital publishing has changed. To enable authors and independent publishers— established as well as a new wave of creative storytellers — publishing platforms have to evolve. With BookRix’s roots as a creative community, we deeply believe that the direct contact of publishers and consumers is vital not only to independent publishers,” said Johannes Conrady, CEO of BookRix. “This app is more than just a new distribution channel — it’s a cornerstone in building a fair, transparent, and sustainable ecosystem for all kinds of publishers.”

The partnership with Beat Technology brings together BookRix’s commitment to author empowerment with Beat’s world-class technology expertise. Beat Technology has previously developed successful ebook and audio streaming platforms across international markets, ensuring the new app will deliver a seamless and engaging user experience. “Seeing our tech stack move from trade publishing also into the exciting realms of a self-publishing community such as BookRix has been a rewarding journey. We firmly believe in the commercial viability and the creativity of self-publishing, and can’t wait to have this app up and running with the BookRix community,” said Nathan Hull, CSO of Beat Technology.

With this launch, BookRix and its parent company StreetLib, are pursuing a holistic approach to publishing:

  • Creative Support: Tools and services that help authors and publishers develop and refine their content.
  • Publishing Solutions: Easy-to-use infrastructure for editing, formatting, and preparing works for digital release.
  • Distribution & Access: Direct connection to readers through a subscription model that rewards quality and diversity.

"BookRix is where digital innovation meets human creativity, bringing diverse stories to readers everywhere," said Giacomo D’Angelo, CEO of StreetLib. "Our mission is to give every storyteller the chance to be heard and every reader the chance to discover diverse voices that inspire, connect, and celebrate our shared cultural diversity."

The app will be available for download starting October 2025 on iOS and Android devices in the German-speaking market, and it will become available in Italy in January 2026.
